The cellar room of the sewage plant Wünnenberg/Haaren where the blowers are situated was flooded after a heavy shower. All four Aerzener blower units were completely underwater together with motor and blower stage – but they kept on working as normal! Even though more water came in, the water level remained at a certain point. The blowers apparently conveyed the incoming water with the necessary conveying air into the aeration tanks that the water level could not rise.
It was not until the normal round of an employee that the water inrush was noticed.
When the employee opened the door of the cellar room he was swept off his feet by the huge water outpour. After pumping off the water the units were disassembled, dried, they got an oil change and a change of filters – that was all! When everything was mounted the blower units operated as if nothing ever happened – down to the present day.
